TIMARU ROTARY CLUB.
INAUGURAL LUNCHEON. Twenty-four of the 25 charter members of the Timaru Rotary Club attended at the Stafford for their first meeting and luncheon. The president (Rotarian W. Thomas) extended a cordial welcome to a party of 2U members of tlie Christchurch Rotary Club, who came to Timaru for the occasioti, and who opened post-luncheon proceedings by giving their song, “Rotary Day.”
The Christchurch president (Rotarian Dr. P. S. Foster), and Rotarian Professor J. Shelley delivered Short speeches on the meaning and objects of Rotary, and their remarks were I warmly received. ■ Rotarian W. D. Revell (honorary secretary of the new club) read telegrams and letters of greeting and goodwill from the New Zealand District Governor (Rotarian Charles Rhodes of Auckland), and the Dunedin, Oamaru, Christchurch, and Wellington Clubs. A gift of a chairman's bell, most originally mounted, from the Christchurch • Club, was gracefully acknowledged by tho - Timaru president. ' Besides the Christchurch contingent, there were present Rotarians from Invercargill and New Plymouth, and other guests included members of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand who were in conference in Timaru. Tlie proceedings terminated with 'the singing of tlie National Anthem. Afterwards, the Christchurch Rotarlans were taken for an hour’s motor drive, and were- entertained at- after-noon-tea before catching the express train.
