Mr W. Duncan left Timaru for, Christchurch yesterday. : Mr W. H. Liddicott is at present on a business trip to Timaru. Mr C. Ward, postmaster at Outrain, is at present visiting his people in Timaru. Detective R. J. Walker left, Timaru yesterday on transfer to ■ Wellington. , Mr W. J. A. Thomson, accountant; Auckland, who has been in Timaru since Tuesday last, left on his return to Auckland yesterday. Mr A. Strang, one of the players chosen to tour Africa, with the AH Blacks next year, returned to- -Timaru from Wellington yesterday. The Rev. H. M. Cocks, M.A., of Geraldine, will leave the district at the end of this month to take charge of the parish at Kumara, West Coast. Inspector Kemp is at present an inmate of a private hospital. His condition, which has been causing his friends some concern, ha 3 slightly improved. Mr D. M. France was yesterday reappointed tlie representative of the South Canterbury Farmers’ Union On the South Canterbury branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Mess-ws G. de Gruchy and W. E. G. Gregory (Dunedin), arrived in Timaru yesterday. Mr de Gruchy was formerly general manager in New Zealand for the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, and the Cunard Line, but has received an appointment iif Sydney. His position is now beinW filled by Mr Gregory. They will leave for the north to-day. At yesterday’s meeting of the South Canterbury Executive of the Farmers’ Union, reference was made by the chairman (Mr P. R. Talbot) to the death of Mr Andrew Burnett. Mr Talbot said that Mr Burnett had done yeoman service in. the early days, and liis son, Mr T. D. Burnett, was also doing his share in the interests of the farming community. Other members also spoke in appreciative terms of the work done by the late Mr Burnett, and a vote ol sympathy with members of tke family was carried in silence.
