WAIMATE.

' ' ’.From Our Own Correspondent.) THE ELECTIONS. The municipal elections in Waimato were keenly contested. Fear many years there have been insufficient candidates to create a poll, hut this year seventeen candidates sought the nine seats on the Council, and two contested the Mayoralty. The winning man (Mr G 30,. Dash), whose two prececding j-ears in* the Mayoral chair have not been' without tangible results, issued a programme of work for the coming years, and attached to himself the sitting five Councillors who sought re-election, and three new candidates. It says something for the work done and the programme issued that the burgesses returned Mr Dash as Mayor and his five sitting Councillors. The four other gentlemen returned to the Council are useful men who will fall in with any proposals made in the best interests of and Mr Dash has before him a* term that should be resultful for what Mr Geddes termed “the best little town that I know.” The installation of Mayor and Council will take place on Wednesdav next at 7.30 p.m., and the new Council aiid ladies will adjourn to supper at the SaVoy at the invitation cf the Mayor. - One of the first matters to be taken up by the new Council will be the town planning scheme. On this matter soijm of the occupants of Council seats have decided opinions, and will make propceals that will open the eyes of the burgesses and cause general interest to be taken. The creation of a storage lake in connection with the water supply is also a foremost matter, and already levels are being taken at the proposed site. AN ACCIDENT. An accident occurred on Wednesday evening at the Willowbridge corner of the Main South Road, when a motorcycle and sidechair crashed into a motor-car. The car suffered consider-

able damage, and the motor-cycle was disabled. Mr Hungcrford, of Christchurch, was the driver of the cycle, and Mr Willetts, cf Waimate, steered the car. A few cuts and shakings were tho only injuries to the passengers.
