A decision which is regarded as bringing the tolalisntor appreciably nearer, lias be 3 a readied by the Jockey Club, which is instituting an inquiry “into the means whereby betting may best be made to contribute to the maintenance of sport.” The “Daily Telegraph’s” racing export says: “Obviously the Jockey Club sees the solution of its present difficulties in the totalisator, as a means of not only assisting the State fiom betting, (Jut deriving benefit from the gross percentage deducted for the welfare of racing generally.
