ECHO OF PRESS TAX.
Attitude of Labour Cabinet. CLAIM EXTRA REVENUE WHILE BILL OPERATED. By Cable —Press Association —Copyright, Australian and N.Z. Cabla Association. (Received March 21, 10.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 21. Beaten in their efforts to raise revenue by taxing newspapers through the Bill being declared unconstitutional, after it had been in operation a short time, it is understood Cabinet is seeking a certain amount of revenue by claiming monies amounting to a large total, representing the extra charge levied by the newspapers while the Bill operated. The ground of the claim is that all unclaimed monies belong to the Treasury. In the meantime the newspapers are propounding schemes for refunding monies by donating them to hospitals, etc. One evening paper is conducting a plebiscite to decide the method of charitable disposal.
