HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Board of Governors of the Tiiuuru High Schools met yesterday. There were present: —Mr W. D. Revell (in the chair), Mesdames B. Tl. Low, W. Raymond, Messrs J. G. (low, T. Lyon, W. D. Campbell, and Dr L. S. Talbot. CHAIRMAN’S STATEMENT. The chairman .said that nothing had s>et been done with regard to the additions to the girls' hostel, but as the Minister for Education (Hon. Jv. A. Wright) had recently returned to Wellington, the Board would probably hear of the acceptance of a tender to proceed with the work. AVork at the two schools was proceeding satisfactorily. The Board was expecting .. visit of one hour and a- halt from the Minister for Education, who was due to arrive on Wednesday; next. He would like, at that meeting, to have a small committee appointed to aw eoinpauy the Minister and to support the requests to be made by Miss Barr and Mr Thomas.

Mr Gow said he understood the Minister had advised the _ Education Board that he intended visiting the • nary schools and Technical School on that. day. FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance Committee reported as follows :—The matter of forming new courts was again considered. The position at first thought' best was found not suitable, and it was decided to get further prices for one court just to the south of ' the swimming bath, and for a new court on the site of the present ’ court nearest the school. The architect had this matter in hand, and it "was now only a question of negotiating with the adjoining tenants for permission to cross their pronortles.

This ground had now been lined, and a fence was being erected round the creek. A one inch water pipehad also been laid across the centre of the ground. At tho suggestion of the surveyor, it _ was decided not to go on with draining, in the meantime, until it is found what drainage, if any, is necessary. Accounts, as under, have been presented and approved for payment:— General accounts, £'ss 13s Od; Girls’ Preparatory, £1 2s 2d; Boys’ Preparatory, Its Od: hostel accounts, ■O2BI 15s 2d: total, £339 4s 4d.

Messrs H. 11. Fraser and W. D. Revell were appointed a sub-committee to attend to matters in connection with the tennis courts at tho Girls’ School, and the drain at the Boys’ School. Tlie report was adopted.

APPOINTMENT COMMITTEE. The Appointment Committee reported as follows :—“Applications closed on February 26 for the position of domestic-science teacher at the Girls’ School. Several applications came in late, and these were not considered in making the appointment. After careful consideration, it was decided that Miss E. Waddell be appointed to the position, her duties to commence at the beginning of the second term.” THE MINISTER’S VISIT. Mr T. B. Strong (Director or E(uic-alion) wrote stating that the Minister of Education ('Hon. R. A. Wright; would meet tho Board hi Timaru during his visit. In a subsequent telegram, the Minister stated that he would visit (lie Girls’ High School at 9.45 a.m. on Wednesday, and would visit the Moy.s’ School at 10.30. A« ho had a very heavy programme, it would lie necessary for him to leave not later than 11.15 a.m. Mr J.
