FIRES.
SECOND OUTBREAK AT STOKE WORKS.
By Teietrapb —Pr ea* Association,
NELSON, March 18. Another fire occurred at the Ne son Freezing Company’s works at Stoke last evening. It was much more serious than Tuesday’s fire. . The Nelson and Richmond Brigades wero called, but great difficulty was experienced in reaching the seat of the fire, which seemed to be in two places. Tlie flames were subdued after several hours’ difficult work.
The extent.' of the damage is not yet known, but will be considerable, and the Company will be deprived of the use of two or three chambers for some time.
Killing will not be interfered with. Three chambers are affected —those devoted to apples. One will "probably be disabled for the season. The others will in all probability be ready to cope with all fruit, as it is the day before large quantities are sent to the coo! stores. Tiie porcelain pans in the works’ lavatories were, '-broken to nieces, as if kicked, sometime after 5 last evening. The pans wero similarly broken six weeks previously.
