(Sir Robert Bond entered the Newfoundland Legislature in 1882 and became Speaker of the Assembly in 1884. In- 1889 be became a Cabinet Minister, and in the following year assisted Lord Paunceforte in negotiating a reciprocity treaty with the United States. He was Prime Minister and Colonial Secretary from 1900 till 1909, and retired in 1913;.
