Dunedin had the lowest infant mortality in the world, and the Society could claim the credit. Mr Kirkcaldie, president of the Citizens’ Committee, said ho was bitterly disappointed with the result of the appeal for .£25,000 for the hospital; only £15,000 was raised, and lie lei’ approaching the Government for help. Sir Irubv King said the committee had done great service in collecting funds in AVellington. Since Nov. 1924, of 104 children treated, not a singlo one had died. It was a great record tor tho nurses, hut the strain on t-licm was too great. He laid stress on'tho need for-more ante-natal work among mothers. He expected before long to see the infantile death rate reduced to 3 and then to 2 per cent.
