WINCHESTER.

SCHOOL CONCERT. Tho Winchester school children held their annual concert on Tuesday evening There was a very large attendance. The concert was a huge success, the performance of the children reflecting great credit on Mr J. L. A\hite (headmaster), and Miss McArthur (mistress). The programme was opened with a pianoforte duet by Inn. ilcFarlaiio and Meta Greenfield. Peggv Austin opened the second part with a "pianoforte solo. Olgo McFarlano and Edith Cross contributed two songs very sweetly. The senior scholars sang '“God Save the King,” ‘‘God Defend New Zealand,” ‘‘The Sunshine Song, and “Wild Rose”; junior scholars, “Ten Little Servants,” “Meddlesome Mattie,” and “A Mighty _ Captain. This last item was well received by the audience. Recitations were given by Mary and Mildred Austin, Flora White, Muriel Spurdon, Rita Connolly, Pat Deßcnzv, and Mary Kernalian. A fairy dance was given by the junior children. The concert was brought to a close with the plav “Cinderella.” The parts were taken byCinderella, Nora Smith; two elder sisters, Betty Austin and Ena 'AVxander; Prince Rupert, tea McFarlane; mother. Joan DePcnzy; fairy godmother, Poppy Blathwayt; page, Ken Langford ; messenger, Jean Davey; servant., Muriel Spurdon. The children got though their parts very well. The accomnaniments for the evening were tastefully played by Ina. and Mildred McFarlane. Mr John White, on behalf of the narents, returned thanks to Mr J. L. White and Miss McArthur for the trouble they had gone to in preparing tlie> children for the concert. Mr J. L. White returned thanks to all those who had assisted that evening. Both he and Miss McArthur were pleased that the concert was a success. It had been a pleasure to them in preparing the children for the concert.
