A message from Dayton states that Judge John T. Raulston announced on Friday that scientific testimony will he excluded from the Scopes trial. Thursday was devoted to argument on the question of the competency of expert testimony. The Court will adjourn till Monday to enable tbe defence to prepare a statement for a record of what the witnesses would have testified. The trial is producing heated scenes between the opposing counsel.

Mr W. J. Bryan, one of the counsel for the prosecution, declared that more than half the scientists throughout the country do not believe in a personal God, or in immortality. The Leopold-Loeb case was a sample of what that doctrine was doing through the universities. It made murderers. These people had no right to teach children to scoff at the ■ religion of their ancestors. After reading from Darwin’s “Descent of Man,” ho said it traced man’s ascent through old world monkeys—not even from American monkeys. Here we have our glorious pedigree, and every child is supposed to substitute it for the Bible!

General 1 McKenzie, another prosecuting counsel, declared that they wanted to place words In God’s mouth that he made some kind of protoplasm, threw it into the ocean, and said: “If you wait 6000 years I will make something out of you.” The court is daily crowded to excess.
