BRITISH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. _ y Cable—Press Association —Copyrigh. (Received 9.2-5 p.m., June 24.) LONDON, June 24. With a record entry of 277, tho qualifying rounds of the British open championship commenced on two courses—halt playing at lioylake and half at Forniby. The players will change over for the second round tomorrow. There is a formidable American contingent, including ex-champion Hagen, Sarazen, Macdonald, Smith, Jim Barnes; also two Spaniards and half a dozen Frenchmen. Both course records were broken. George Gadd (Roehainpton) headed the Formby round with 70, Macdonald Smith 72, -Sarazen 75, Ray 76, G. Wliitcombe 77, Abe Mitchell 78. At Hoylake the veteran, J. H. Taylor (Mid Surrey) made a course record with 70. Havers (the holder) returned 72, Tolley 77, Wethered and Duncan 78. The American’s scores were: Nicholls 78, Barnes 81, Hagen 83.
