CONCERNING SUBSIDIES.
To the Editor of the “Timaru Herald.” Sir. —In view of the fact that the paid organiser of the Canterbury Progress League has gone so far as to personally canvass the individual .members of the Timaru Borough Council, prior to a council meeting, in order to obtain a favourable vote to a request for a subsidy from the Council to the funds of tho League, I would like to draw the attention of the councillors to the fact that there is a League now in the process of formation whose aim and object is solely for South Canterbury, and which has tremendous promise of support, and intends to raise its own finance. If a subsidy is granted to tho Canterbury Progress League, the Tekapo Development League may certainly expect from the Council the same treatment. —I am, etc., ADVANCE SOUTH CANTERBURY.
