PROGRESS LEAGUE PROPOSAL.
To the Editor of the “Timaru Herald.” Sir.—l think it would interest a great number of your readers if they were made aware of the real reason of the courtship of the district by the Christchurch Progress League. Their organiser, Mr Climie, 1 understand, was invited by His Worship tho Mayor bome. weeks, -ago, to address a public meeting, with tho object of forming a branch here of the Christchurch Progress League. There was a big attendance! and a lot of discussion on the subject but the object was flatly turned down. Now/ sir, rumour has it that Air Climie is having another bid for victory at the Council meeting tonight, and to make doubly sure of the result, has been interviewing individual councillors.' lii face of the result of the public meeting mentioned, these tactics arc not democratic. They arc absolutelv autocratic.—l am, etc., RATEPAYER.
