PROPOSED SECOND TRANSMISSION LINE.
To the Editor of the “Timuru Herald.'’ Sir. —In your issue of yesterday appeared a report of iiu interview between a “Herald” reporter and Mr Cliniio, organiser to the Canterbury Progress League, wherein Mr Climie is reported to have stated : “That the; League was trying very hard to have a second traiisini-.siou line erected between Coleridge and Timaru.” To my mind, the above is an extraordinary statement for the organiser ol the Canterbury Progress League to make, and therefore, it would be interesting co know from him, on what grounds it would be of any benefit to South Canterbury, as under the cirumstances, South Canterbury cannot expect to got a.full supply of power from Coleridge, cither at the present time or in the future. Therefore, our transmissiori fine should be sufficient for all the; power that is.-to be transmitted —and it should be'well known bv'Mr Climie that all -the current generated at Coleridge can he used by Christchurch and North Canterbury. Therefore. South Canterbury should not be saddled with any more handicaps in connection with Lake Colelid'fc. If the proposed second line were erected South Canterbury would have to take it over when Smith Canterbury developed Tekajio, as it is clearly stipulated in the license There fore, a second line, it ergcted, would cost the ratepayers ’of South '■ Canterburv another £50,000, which would be a serious handicap. I hope that the meeting of citizens which is to bo' held- next .week, will protest a"anist this unwise action by the 1 rorrcess League in this matter. In conclusion, 1 wish to say that the citizens of South Canterbury should be competent to manage their own affairs.— l am, etc., " W - AXCLAND.
