SYDNEY, June 19

In connection with the mysterious wireless S.O.S. call received by the Wellington wireless station on Monday, the manager of the Yamashita Shipping Company states that the Java Maru is stranded near Kobe, and this, lie believed, would account for the message received in New Zealand.

He adds that it is gratifying to learn that Australia and New Zealand will be able to communicate so closely with Japan through the radio at no distant date.

CONTROL OF BROADCASTING

AUSTRALIA'S PROPOSALS

By Cable —Press Association —Copyright. MELBOURNE, June 19.

In the • House of Representatives, Mr Bruce promised an early statement regarding the controlling of broadcasting in Australia, but it appears that difficulties have arisen which probably will delay, action.

A conference of those interested in broadcasting, recently held in Sydney, made certain recommendations which the Ministry seems unlikely to adopt.

The present proposal is to form a company, with a capital of £200,000, shares in which may be acquired by anyone within certain limits. Before this can be done it is necessary to have the arrangement approved bv the existing broadcasting companies, and to settle the basis of compensation to them for any losses through going out of business. This is causing much difficulty.

Tt is stated that the new plan the Ministrv seems likely to adopt will involve the abandonment of the present regulation governing sealed sots.
