THE LIQUOR QUESTION.
ALLIANCE active. By Tolegrapb—Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 19. A. large deputation of the New Zealand Alliance met a number of members of Parliament this morning, to discuss licensing legislation. Mr Falkiner, president of the local Prohibition Committee, said every can didate at the next election would be expected to make some statement icgarding his stand on the liquor question, and his statement would be pub lished by the Alliance, which wished the issues confined to Continuance and Prohibition. Mr A. Harris, M.P., said an honourable understanding existed between tho liquor party and tho prohibitionists, that there should bo a third issue it State control were eliminated. Mr Falkiner said this had repeatedly been denied. Mr J. A. Lee. M.P., said he would state his views when he knew what was proposed. The policy of the Labour Party would bo his policy. Mr W. J. Jordan said the Labour Party had no policy on the liquor question. Personally ho favoured a bare majority on a straight out issue, but if one section of the people thought corporated control should bo submitted, it should bo. He was prepared to support the transferable vote. Mr F. N. Bartram said he was an out and out prohibitionist, but tho principle of democracy would always come first with him.
