The Mexican Embassy inis issued a statement announcing the determination of the Mexican Government not to recede from its position demanding the recall of Mr Cummins. It is .said tho reply to the British Government disagreed with the view that the tequest for recall constituted a discourteous act It is asserted as an elementary principle that any Government, at any time has the right to request other Governments to recall diplomats and it is a duty under international comity, to withdraw them and not endeavour to impose,on other countries* It was fully realised that this attitude, in defence of national honour, would mean the cancellation ot the proposed Mission to Mexico, but Mexico has only defended its dignity as a sovereign nation.

Minister having informed the Mexican Consul-General at London, that relations will be broken off should Mexico expel the British Charge d’Affaires (Mr Herbert Cummins) before the arrival ot the British Diplomatic Mission, the ConsulGeneral has been instructed to reply that it is impossible to countenance Mr Cummins’s attitude any longer. He must go. . _ . . It is reported that Mr Cummins is ready to leave Mexico immediately upon receipt of instructions from his Government.

The American Embassy in Mexico City has taken charge of the archives of the British Embassy there, which have been in the custody of Mu Herbert Cummins, British agent against whom the Mexican Government is endeavouring to enforce an ordeiof expulsion.
