The Japanese steamer Ugamaru is reported to be aground at Manila. The vessel has on board 5000 tons of coal for Manila, which will have to be removed in lighters.

Acceptances for the first day of the Ashburton Racing Club’s winter meeting. close at 5 p.m. to-day. At the Point-to-Point Steeplechases at Waitawa on Saturday, Mr C. L. Orbeil’s mare Cremona was badly cut at the top of both front legs, through running into a barbed wire which had been tied back at one of the jumps. 'Hie cuts bled so freely as to necessitate skilled attention, which was given by Mr W. W. Smith, who cleansed the wounds and stitched one of them. It is expected that it will be fully three months before Cremona will be fat tor work again-
