“COOLIDGE FOR PRESIDENCY.

Choosing Republican Nominee.

IS A CHANGE IMMINENT? By Cable- —Press Association —Copyright. Receive# 5.5 p.m., June 15. WASHINGTON, June 14. The Republican ticket is commented on favourably by the Conservative Eastern Republicans, but it has not aroused much enthusiasm in the section of the Party dominated by the Progressives and Western Agriculturists. Disappointment is expressed by members of the Congress, that the Middle West and Agricultural West are not represented. Mr Dawes, who is one of Chicago’s leading financiers, is an open and bitter foe of organised labour. He was leader of the open shop movement in Chicago. It is claimed by many that his election as vice-President will serve to alienate the Labour vote, because in many districts, as the chief of a big financial organisation', he is unlikely to attract the farmers’ vote, since many Western Agriculturists blame the financiers in the big cities for their troubles.

Impartial observers declare that if the Democrats name a strong ticket and Senator La Follette runs as an Independent candidate, the outcome of the campaign would be highly uncertain.

This feeling is not shared by Mr Coolidge, who, in a message to Mr Dawes, said:—“lt will he a pleasure to be associated with you in the public service,” thereby assuming the cer tanty of a republican victory.
