POWER BOARD’S POLICY.

Costing £BO,OOO to build, it lay idle for two. years, piling up £16,000 of expenses in that time without earning a cent. So far as anyone can it is likely to g doing the same thing for an unspecified period. The Power Board were elected to provide electric juice—during two years the sum total ot then efforts was to waste £3OOO ; their principal contribution to the general confusion took the form of issuing information (?) which was always shown to be absolutely wrong, in a few weeks. In the whole history of local government there is no liiore complete record of bumble-bungling, _ crass incompetence and general inaptitude, than that shown in the last few years by our authorities in handling the electrical situation. It is a distinct defect in our laws, that no provision has been made to make the principal offenders legally responsible. The recent electric fiasco has made our town a by-word throughout the country, while the people of Christchurch condescend to pity us for the pickle nc find ourselves in as a result ot putting political considerations ahead ol scientific facts. _ It is the typo ct parish-pump political amateur, we have been inflicted with, which constitutes a dangerous menace to the welfare of local industries —a matter can evidently be mishandled for years and nobody ho held responsible. If there is nobody in the district competent to tackle the job in the public interest, let us by all means hand it over to private enterprise. I intend gonm along to Thursday’s meeting, and if 1 am in order I shall have my say, regardless of anybody’s feelings.--! am, etc..
