PERSONAL.
The Rev. J. J. North, of Christchurch, was a passenger by the south express yesterday afternoon. Mr T. D. Burnett, MP., for Temuka, is making good progress towards recovery from his recent operation. He is still 'in Stafford Hospital, Dunedin. The New Zealand Beekeepers’ Association lias elected the following officers President, Mr E. R. Bates, vicepresident, Mr G. K. Kitchingham; Messrs J. Hent-oul, A. H. Davies, R. A. Gibb, and C. A. Pope.
Mi ss Kathleen Malone, representing Mr Fred McCrca, the celebrated concert director, passed through Timaru yesterday. Mv McCroa is piloting through" New Zealand. Mr LenghiCellini, the great Italian tenor, _ and Mr Zacliarewitscli, the Russian violinist.
A London correspondent writes that on his journev to Great Britain, the Hon. James Craigie. M.L.C., spent ten days at Cairo, ten days at Jerusalem, and six weeks in Italy, where he visited some of the principal art galleries. Since coming to England ho has arrived at the conclusion that one need not go out of London to find the greatest works of art Mr Craigie has been going about a good deal, and lie has received many invitations for official functions. He was at Princess Mary’s reception on Monday evening, and yesterday he had an excellent seat to view the opening pageant of the British Empire Exhibition. Mr William Craigie (Invercargill), eldest brother of the Hon. J. Craigio, recently arrived by the Rotorua. His chief object was to spend some time in his native town in Scotland, after an absence of sixty years. The two brothers went North a fortnight ago, and Mr W. Craigie will remain there for some time.
