TIMARU ASSOCIATION.

“HERALD” SHIELD

The presentation of the ‘‘Hera.cl Shield took place in the Arcade rooms on Wednesday evening. Mr F. Lewis, president of the Assostated that this was the sixth year of the competitions, the winners this year being Timaru C. There had been 22 teams competing, and three teams had tied for the final—- Timaru C, Otipua Ladies, and St. Patrick s. In the shoot-off Timaru C the very creditable score of 347 oft the ritle. Otipua Ladies scored 329 and St. Patrick’s 326. The winners for the individual competition —Messrs Blackwood and Bradshaw —only dropped 3 points out of four shoots . In the shootoff 1. Blackwood won. The President then called upon Mr E. G. Kerr, as representing the “Herald” Company, to present the shield and medals.

j Mr Kerr said that it gave him great pleasure to come along and present the shield each year. It was also very ■ encouraging to his directors to know that such keen interest was being taken ni this competition, and he also congratulated the Otipua Ladies for ■ gaining second place out of 22 teams, and the, individual winners on their , splendid performance, j The shield was then presented to Mr J. Stevenson, on behalf of Timaru C team, and Mr Stevenson returned thanks, on behalf of the winning team, j The medals were presnted to the fol- ! lowing members of the Timaru C team: J. Stevenson, W. Cowles, A. Cullen, E. Berry, and D. Sinclair; individual medals to I. Blackwood first and W. Bradshaw second. j Complimentary reference was made ; to the work of the president (Mr F. Lewis), to the vice-president (Mr T. Thompson), and to Mr W. W. Wade ; (the Association treasurer). | Mr Blackwood stated that the handi- : capping had been very successful, and the handicappers were to be congratuj lated on their good ■work. Mr Thompson, in reply, said that the ■ shooting of the Timaru 0 team was very satisfactory, as in each round they had made very marked improvement, . their final score being almost a record. I The President moved a hearty vote j of thanks to the /‘Timaru Herald” for their good work in always keeping the results of the miniature rifle competitions before the public.

OTIPUA CLUB

The Otipua Miniature Rifle Club held its weekly shoot on Tuesday evening. I Only a moderate attendance of riflemen , was present. | The fifth round of Mr C. Tregoning’s trophy was fired, ten members qualifying for the final draw, except in case of a tie. Messrs George Caldwell and C. Tregoning tied for ' the challenge medal. The shooting for the championship and challenge medals will conclude on Tuesday evening, October 2. The following are the best scores for i the evening:—G. Caldwell 68, C. Tre- ! goning 6S, R.
