DOMINION MESSAGE. PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM AUCKLAND, Sunday. The Governor-General has despatched the'following telegram for communication to the lying on the occasion of His Majesty's Birthday: — ; “On behalf of the Government and people of New. Zealand i beg 1 to tender to Your Majesty the most respectful congratulations and good wishes on the -occasion of your birthday and renewed assurances of the unwavering loyalty and devo- ■ tion of your Majesty’s New Zealand subjects to the Throne and Empire.” Yesterday was the. birthday of King George V., when His Majesty entered upon his fifty-ninth year. King George was born at Marlborough House on June 13, 1865, and is the second son of ]iih°- Edward VH. and Queen Alexandra. His elder brother Prince Albert Victor, died on January 14, ar the age of 28. King George succeeded to the throne on May 6, J-91U.

The holiday to celebrate the birthday of the King will be held to-day, and there are various holiday attractions in all parts of the Dominion. Special train services have induced many people to travel, and in Timaru there are a number of visitors. The Seven-a-side Football Tournament and the South Canterbury Golf Championship are the chief attractions in Timaru to-day. Each of the events has attracted large entries, including many visiting players.
