Sir Walter Buchanan passed through Timaru on Saturday. . Constable A. J. Chichester, who has been stationed in Christchurch for seweral months, lias been assigned the position of a head constable in Fiji. ; Mr W. L. Paterson, who lias for the past seven years been a member of the reporting staff of “The Press,” has accepted a position with the “Guardian,”- the new Sydney daily paper.

A London cable message states that Mr John Clark, an Aucklander, laid a wreath on the cenotaph on behalf of the New Zealand Oddfellows. Mr Clark attended the recent Oddfellows’ Conference.

In the Ministerial car which passed through by the first express on Saturday were the Hon. W. Downie Stewart, Sir Aleander Matheson (of the “Morning Post”), the Hon. G. J. Anderson, and Miss Downie Stewart. They went to Dunedin for the Winter Show, ancf .will return to Wellington for the opening of Parliament.

On Saturday evening the friends of Mr L. Crozier assembled for the purpose of making a presentation on the eve of his departure for Auckland. Mr J. Downey, in a neat speech, said his Timaru friends regretted their guest’s departure and wished him every success in his new sphere. On behalf of the company he presented Mr Crozier with a solid leather suitcase and a case of Loewe pipes. Mr N. Wilson also paid a tribute to Mr Crozier. Mr Crozier thanked his friends for their gifts and expressions of goodwill. Captain Aldhelm-White, recently of ■file Royal North-West Mounted Police (Canada), has taken up duty in Christchurch, as n officer in the Forestry Service. Captain Aldhelm-White, after serving as an officer with the Canadian forces in the Great War, joined the Mounted Police, and was on holiday leave in New Zealand when he was .offered- a position in the Forestry Service. He cabled his superior officer in Vancouver, and was given extended leave and the right to resign.
