-fN Iberia, i DISPOSITION OF FORCES. JAPANESE INVESTIGATIONS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable. As-n.) TOKIO, August 22. The' War Office has announced that the enemy force eastward of Simasov now numbers 80,000. The enomy is arming forts with machine-gun s on'the Ussuri river. Four enemy steamers at Ljaekieanka apparently intended to land men at Spaskoys, thirty miles from the Japanese' front line, which would necessitate the withdrawal ofthe Japanese right wing. There are about 17,000 of tli6 enemy in tho Amur area, 80,000 in Zabaikal and 3500 in tho Urals. ARRESTS IN MOSCOW. SOVIET GOVERNMENT ACTIVE. COPENHAGEN, August 22. The "Frankfort Gazette" says that the Soviet Government arrested 15,000 officers at Moscow and they- are held as hostages. Altogether about 50,000 officers have been arrested throughout Russia. A great number of the upper classes in Moscow have also, been arrested on the ground that this is necessary in order, to suppress the counterrevolution". UNITED STATES' ACTION. WASHINGTON. Aucust 22.
