MELBOURNE, Aiißtist 11. hj: the House of Rcpresentatires the Minister of Customs announced that increases would be made in tho import duty tn 3s per gallon on spirits and b. similar excise duty. The excise duty ou beer would be increased by Id per gallon. The estimated reveune from these sources is £600.000. which will cover the loss of revenue caused by the prohibition of luxuries. SHIPBUILDING SCHEME RUNG TJP Mr Hughes stated that the Fedora! shipbuilding scheme was bung; np indefinitely.
