HOUSING CAMPAIGN. A CONSIDERABLE SHORTAGE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. Received 5.15 p.m., Aug. 9th. LONDON, August 9. The Departmental Committee fu» housing the working classes meets tomorrow. The Local Government Board' admits that there is a shortage of half a million houses. Other authorities claim that there is a million shortage, involving an outlay of 250 millions.
The housing shortage is admittedly closely connected with the industrial unrest.
The Government Commissioners ao Glasgow, Eosyth, and Dundee report the immediate need of houses for 100.000 workers. The Barrow-in-Furness Commissioners state that hundreds of beds are occupied day and night.
