-- » | ..(From Our Own Correspondent.) . The monthly meeting of the Pleasant Point Distr.ct High- feehool Committee was held on Monday evening. Present Messrs: Lawrenson (uliuirman), Halstead (secretary), Oboru, Miller, Mcpherson. Dr Paterson and Mr Palmer (headmater)." ' Accounts amounting to £8 17s fkl were passed for payment. Correspondence from the Jtev. Stanley Huisori relative to Bible instruction was-read. Mr Huiaon explaining that lie and the Rev. G. King hud agreed to give- rolig'ous instruction on the authority oi tho committee. . AfteT some little discussion it was resolved that Wednesday forenoon from 11.30 to 12 o'clock bo set aside, for religious instruction, the secretary being authorised to. write to the pastors of the different denominations* to that effect. The headmaster reports! the average attendance as 100 in the primary department and 26 iu the High School. He also asked for the xmrchase of some pictures' and supplementary readers, and stated that a few necessary repairs would have to be made. On the motion" of Dr. Paterson it was itgred to have the repairs done, purchase, the readers, and let-the'pictures stand over'so that, the headmaster might report .more fully at a future meeting, A long discussion took place over Cotonation celebrations, Mr Lawrenson explaining, that lie; had "attended a meeting in connecj tion with the Coronation on behalf of the school. At that meeting a suggestion was made to plant some trees in the school ground, but the proposal was not entertained. Mr Palmer said that Mr. J Chisholm would give 100 shrubs gratis, if the committee irot the laud in order and held a tree planting ceremony on Coronation Dav, the School children to take an active part. It was agreed-to accept Mr offer, the committee to meet on Wednesday at 11.30 a.m. on the sell col grounds and ' make arrangements to have the land put in order. Dr Paterson was appointed visitor foV the month, and it was decided to close the school •on Friday, the day after the oofonation celebrationis.
