N.Z. ATHLETIC UNION.

IMPORTANT MEETING. At the fifth annual meeting of the Now Zealand Athletic Union held ill Timaru on Monday night representatives of all partß of tho Dominion were present and Mr J. Kennedy presided. The annual roport and balance sheet were read and adopted, tho. latter showing the. Union to have a credit balance of about £7O. A good deal of discussion took place concerning tho notion - of tho Centre in failing to flay its'sulißcrrption to tho Union. A proposal . was. made that in view of the fact that Feilding. had spenti all its money in. forwarding the interests of the Athletic Union, the amount owing by that centre should be not collected. There was some strong 'objection to this and finally it was resolved that the Feeding Centre be given three yeaVs 'in wliioh to pay off its arrears. It was resolved that tlie headquarters of the executive .for the ensuing twelve months should be Timaru. Tlio following officebearers were elected: —Patron, Mr G. W. Wood (Invercargill); president, Mr J. Keii(Geraldine); : vice-presidents, Messrs J. Clarke (New Plymouth), B. Harding (Christchurch), J. Burgess (Christ-clmrch), and T. Duncan (Wellington") ; committee, Messrs J. Walters (Christchurch), W. J. Callender (Hawke's Bay), A. -J. Fisher (Blenheim), J. A. Hansen (Eltliam),, J. ' F. Wilson (Westport), arid D. J. -Corcoran (Oamaru); secretary, Mr H. H. Fraser (Timaru). -. j A discussion took place relative to the Union "Calendar" and recommendations wete made that the subscription be raised to .8s per annum, and that all affiliated clubs should insert tj.?ir programmes in it. A motion was passed: "That ♦he attention of tho Amateur Athletic Association bo drawn to defaulting cti&li runners now competing amongst' the ranks of the amateurs." ■ In view of the fact , that Auckland lias failed to affiliate with the Union it was to send a representative of the Union to Auckland to endeavour to bring about affiliation.-: ' It was decided to go no further with the proposal, made last year, in regard to insuring competitors. Satisfaction was expressed withj tl.o arrangements made wlieroby erehoes between the .Union and the N.Z. .League of- Wheelmen, were settled. •
