, (By "Skip"). I SO;\U3 LOCAL NOTES. : The iiowling season is coiv in full ' swai;; and the oiiica-bearers of the : 'i.niut-u Club have every reason to be proutl of the huge success of their ofiic.al opening. By that time the turf should le thoroughly matured, and well able ;•;> sai.d the new season's bowling. The Bon-ling Green which was laid out some time ago at the South End Park lias recently been weeded out and top-dressed. The turf is naturally not; of the first-class order, but there is no reason why it should not improve, a'l*ua\s allon-ing that it has the vcrv best attention but, of course, the prospects of its getting .that in the meantime * j re very remote. Those few n°ntlemen irho have been- putting forth their best endeavours to form a club in the South end have not yet succeeded, but now . the Council lias approved of a pavilion being erected at the green t-he main difficulty has been overeoin?. and it should only be a -vi.ucer of Jnonths. (instead of years without a il>avihon> before a Soutli End club is formed.

j JOTTINGS. , & meeting of the Council of tl:e - 'Jvew Zealand Bowling Association held 5 a t Dunedin, on Tuesday night, the , question of .allowing the Dunedin Cen- , tre to hold a tournament at Christ-mas ! discussed. Intimations -were received that Christchurch and Invereargill did not opjiose the holding of the proposed tournament. A deputation from the Centre waited on the Council, which, after discussion, refused permission to hold the tourunament no reason being given. The Dunedin Centre generally hold f ournamen fc at Easter, but as faster falls at such a late date this yea- ; fc is doubtful if it would be advisable to hold a tournament at all -'je circumstances. Tnless t.he weather at that time of the year is an excejtijn to . rule much damage would inevitably be done to the green and in all probability there W-ill be no Dunedin , Tournament at all this season. This i is to be regretted as the Dunedin lis- ' ture was always irell patronised hy ' bowlers generally. ] — i
