The Scottish euginemen who gave a fortnight's notice to secure the eight hours day, have withheld the notice pending an interview with the owners. Five hundred railwaymen in North--11 France have struck. Passenger traffic is not affected, as soldiers are acting as drivers and stokers. The strike is spreading. .

GERMAN SHIPBUILDING. THE STRIKE ENDED. A conference between the employers and the men of private German shipbuilding yards lias -agreed l to end tihe strike The men obtained material concessions, but abandoned the demand for an all round 53 hours week. The wages have been increased four or five per cent, instead of 10 per cent.

PARIS, Oct. 10. The strike in Northern France is due to an announcement that the minimum wage is to be five francs a day. The malcontents are those paid on a higher scale. BERLIN, Oct. 10. THE LATE BERLIN RIOTS. An orderly meeting of 20.000 socialists protested against the action of the police against the Moabit strikers. Per Press Association WAIHI, Oct. 10. The Miners' Union decided by 440 votes to 227 to cancel the registration under the Arbitration Act. The votes in favour are considerably short of the majority of the members of the union, but it is understood that application will be made to the registrar for cancellation in order, to test the question.
