THE WAIKARE WRECK.

SALVAGERS' ADVENTURES. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Oct. 10. Mr Crocket, of the syndicate that has been salvaging; the wreck, tf the Waikare in Dusky Sound, has just ieturned, with a somewhat exciting story, whioh he told to a " Southland Times " reporter. Members of the party, while mating for Preservation Inlet in the ketch Anna, ran on to some rocks and sprang a bad leak. They attempted a fivemile run before a wind, which died away, and then ran back with another breeze, and successfully negotiated a short cut through a line of breakers into Luncheon Cove,, and eventually beached the Anna in the creek where the first vessel ever built in New Zealand was launched.

The party also ran short of provisions, and more than once had to make a raid on the Waikare's store room, most of the contents of whioh were unfit for consumption. Prom the wine room they got a considerable supply of wines, ales, liqueurs, etc., which have been brought to the Bluff. There is yet a good deal of salvage work to be done, but the opjnion of experts is that the Waikare will never be refloated.
