A British steamer rescued, near Barbados, .six of the crew of the wrecked vessel Loop of Sunlight. They were in an open, boat, and had lived on sugar and vinegar for thirteen days.
HOLD ON FIRE. ' Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, August 13. _ During the voyage of the Atua. from Samoa, to Nukualofa a fire was discovered in the forchold at l.o" p.m. on Saturday tliirty miles from Nukualofa. The copra in the cargo was on fire, and the pungent smoke rendered work impossible. The hold was battened down, and on arrival at Nukualofa the chemical fire extinguisher was put into operation all Saturday. On Sunday the hatches were taken off and water pumped into the fire, which was extinguished at 4 oclock in the afternoon. " When the vessel was pumped drv it was found that practicallv no damage had been done to the ship, and verv little to the cargo.
