TEMUKA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Government Inspectors on Monday and Tuesday conducted the annual inspection of the scholars attending St. Joseph's School, Temuka. Charges of being unlawfully on licensed premises during prohibited hours are to be preferred against two Temuka residents by the police. The ceremonies of the forty hours devotion commenced at St. Joseph's Church on Sunday and concluded on Tuesday at 10 a.m. The church was ■prettily decorated throughout, and the Rev. F. Fay was assisted by Fathers Smith (Timaru) and Berger (Wainiate). On Sunday the choir rendered the Mass of St-. Cecilia and on Monday a Missa Cantata was sung. At 9 a.m. on Tuesday a High Mass was celebrated and the ceremonies brought to a close.
On- Thursday evening Miss Ronnie, the instructress to the Temuka Technical Association., is to give another of her popular demonstrations in the art of cooking, her subject being various wavs of cooking fish. The Rev. W. S. Bean, vicar of Addington, who has been nominated curateof the parish of Temuka, arrived by the first express on Monday on a tour of inspection of the parish. . He returned to Christchurch by the second express and has promised to give a definite answer before the end of the week, as to whether hj« will accept the charge of the parish. On Monday night the art union in connection with the late poultry show was drawn. The winniiisr numbers wer~ in order:—39s, 338, 1319, lU7' 307, 543, 1270, 426, 1237, 99, 222. 541, 765, 1344, 1145. The first prize, a six ounce nugget, went to G. Hobbs junr.
