WINCHESTER NOTES.

(From our Own Correspondent.) The Winchester Miniature Rifle Club, assisted by the Victoria Hall trustees and •committee, are. having a social room built on to the front of the hall. There are 4S members in the club, and when the room is built two ranges will be put in use, so that members will not have so long to wait for their turns.

Thirty members of the Winchester Miniature Rifle Club fired on Monday evening for Mr W. Harrison's trophy, it was won by W. Riley (6) 70, with the next best G. McKellar (2.) 69, -T. Cripps (scr) 68, A. Gillum (1) 68, R. Maddren (a) OS, A. Cripps (scr) 67, T. Kennedy (scr; 67, L. Young (1) 67, W. Scott (scr) 66, T. Gillum (1) 66, A. Louden (3) 66, J. Bisdee (4) 65, W. Ebom (3) 64, H. E. Watson (1) 63, J. C. Smith (scr) 61. On Monday night 32 points of rain were registered. The montJily meeting of the Winchsster School C'-omiiiittee was held on Monday evening".- Present —Messrs J. AVilks (chairman), J\ Mclnnes, C. Opie, R. Maddren, A. Shaw, .and T. Stone. The chairman reported that spouting had been fixed at the back flf tne shelter shed and of the washbouse. The master reported that Miss Mailing, the newly appointed mistress, had begun her work when the school reopened after the holidays. The roll number was S3, and the average lately was 78. Messrs W. Harrison and H. E. Smith had each sent a load of wood for school firing. It was decided that the Committee's thanks be tendered to them. Accounts for £3 12s 6d were passed for payment. It was decided to hold a euchre party on July 15th in aid of the Barclay Memorial Fund. It was resolved to" erect 30ft of seating along the north wall of the school. On the motion of Messrs Maddren and Mclnnes a vote of condolence was passed to Mr J. Wilks on the death of his father.
