BOROUGH COUNCIL.

' WAIMATT. The meeting of the above Council,era Tuesday night was attended by the Deputy-Mayor (Cr. Inkster), and Councillors Sanders., Hutt, Jones, Manchester, Hunt, Collett, Cos and Miller. The Valuation Department advised that the new valuation roll would be sent down about the middle of July. Mrs J. Keane asked for a water supply outside of the borough boundary on special terms. —Referred to the Water Committee for report. The Bruce County Council asked the Cuncil's co-operation in getting an amendment to the Rating Act. —Received. The Timaru Harbour Board advisedthat the levy for harbour rate payable by the borough, would be 3-16ths of a penny in the pound.—Received. The Taihape Borough Council asked for information re Town Hall, Municipal offices, etc. —Received. (No hall! no information.) The Municipal Association's order paper for the coming annual Conference was considered, and it was decided to ask the Council's delegate to support remits, making property owners liable for half cost of asphalting and channelling : owners of overhanging hedges subject to fine if not removed on seven days' notice; property vested in the King to be subject to borough by-laws; fire brigades' services at fires at Government offices to he paid for by the Government; remits asking for better control of motor traffic.

The Sanitary Committee reported having met Dr. Finch in consultation regarding the Queen Street drain, and as a result recommended that those property holders reported by the Inspector ns draining other than storm water into the Queen Street drain, be given an extension of time in which to comply with the notices served upon them tq provide some other means for disposing of their drainage; and that a report be obtained as to the size and cost of a drain for Queen Street suitable for carrying both storm water, and the household sewage that is now being run into the brick drain.— Adopted.

On a notice of motion it was decided to rescind the motion giving 'notices to certain property owners using the storm drain that legal proceedings would be taken.

The Sanitary Committee were asked to meet the ratepayers interested in the drain, and find out the revenue they typuld guarantee, the Committee to report fully, and on the probable coat of the drain proposed. The matter of nights of street lighting was considered unsatisfactory, and was referred to the Lighting Committee. Accounts for £23 lis lOd'were passed for payment.
