FIRES.
COTTAGE DEMOLISHED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. March 10. A house of six rooms in the Marina 1 arade, Ponsonby, owned bv Mr A. Coleman and occupied by Mr A. R. Hobday, was almost completely destroyed by fire to-dav, together with its contents. Mrs Hobday is away from Auckland, and Mr Hobdav was on his way to town when the outbreak occurred. He cannot account for the origin of the fire, beyond a surmise that it may have been caused bv rats, for it apparently started in the roof. The furniture was insured in the Yorkshire office for £4OO, and the house for £2OO in the South British. HOUSE DESTROYED. WANGANTJI, March 10. A fourteen-roomed house was destroyed by fire at Waverley earlv this morning. It was owned' bv Mr J. Hughes, and occupied bv Mr Reid, who had barely time to escape. It waa insured for £6OO.
