RAM AND EWE FAIR.
DEMAND NOT ACTIVE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 10. _ The annual Canterbury ram and ewe rair commenced to-day. The entreis ; were slightly larger than last year and there was a good attendance. The sale commenced with the flock rams and long and short wools were sold simultaneously. The collection of rams was above the average so far as growth and condition were concerned, though there : ivas as usual a number of inferior animals eiuered. The demand was not so good as wa* expected. The Lincolns were all passed at auction and the Border-Leices-ters which were entered in larger numbers than usual met with rather a dull sale, prices ranging from l|gns. to 4gns. The English Leicesters were bv far the most numerous of the breeds represented and they met with fair sale, rams from the best known, flocks bringing very good prices, while the demand lasted. The prices in the earlv part of the sale ranged from lfgns. to ofgns. A few Corriedales changed hands, the top price being 61gns. Shropshires were offered in much smaller numbers than of late -ears and tney met with a rerv good sa"le, prices ranging from l£gns. to 4|gns. Southdowns were very dull of sale, the selection not being very good, owing to so manv having been sold' privately for the North Island. They made Ig. to 4|gns.
