Dogs.
This section was one in which there was a very large increase in the number of entries, there being one short of double the number entered in 1908, she numbers being. 27 and 53. The whole exhibit, which was in a tent to the left of the grandstand attracted a good deal of attention, and the tent was generally filled with numbers of people of both sexes, who were examining the animals shown with great interest. As usual the entry in sporting dogs was rather small. Mr D. J. Irving got a red ticket for his greyhound Lord Clement, ■ with Mr B. Fitzsimmons'. Nell second, and these two were the only entries in the class. The retrievers were a very fair lot, and the first award in the class ,for which there were seven entries, went to S. Radford's Darkey's Pride; Messrs Shewan and Child were 2nd and 3rd, and M. A. Toomey got a commended for his "Ohau." In most of the/other classes there were only small entries.:' Mr'J. Harrison's black cocker, Trixle, deserved its red 1 ticket, as did W. Roy'B Scotch terrier .bitch, Jean McPherson. In the non-sporting section,' Mr J. Hay Dawson's bull-dog deserves mention, while Mr J. Thomson's pet collie Roslyn Kernel, was a really beautiful animal, well got tip and shown iti good condition. The sheep dogs were an excellent class, Messrs C; Ley and. A. C. Hutton gaining first and; second in short-haired with a brace of animals of a good stamp; Mr J. Brown annexed the red ticket for long-haired* with Mr .T. Brosuahan second, but Mr R. W. Trotter's bearded black sheep ; dog Guid, was in many respects the nicest dog of the lot, and well deserved its premier position. •'■ "'
