Produce.

Olio of the most interesting sections of the show was that displayed; in .ihe big produce, shed, and afternoon a stream of people was ".circulating round the building, gazing at and generally admiring the''exhibits. Another large increase" in the entries was seen in this section also, the, figures for 1907 being ,84, 1908 135, "and tliis year the grand :. total reached 244, ■■*'» highly creditable figure. .. The competition in the section for butter, home made, was exceptionally keen, heavy entries being recorded in all. classes, and the winning-exhibits .were of; a high standard of! excellence. 'Mrs. J. Belcher's display of fancy butter,"in the form of elaborate floral, crosses and wreaths, was well worth seeing ; and reflected great credit, on the clever .exhibitor. In the other classes of butter exhibits, Mesdames BelcEer, .McDowell, and Wi J. Basset were awarded red tickets. Mr C. J. Clayton was the premier exhibitor in honey, with Mr P. Sullitan second, and the first named's exhibition case of honey,; extracted, canned and in the comb,, was much admired. Another, very large class was that; for home-made bread. Some excellent work was shown, Mrs M. Harvey and Mrs J. Nyhon being first and second respectively. Other classes for scones, brownie, 1 etc., also elicited keen competitionj the exhibits generally being of a high class. Messrs McCalhim Bros, annexed nearly all the awards in the cured and preserved meat section, the only ether competition being Mr E. Waite, who secured prizes in the classes for farmers only. In the purely agricultural produce classes Messrs Elworthy, Brte. took all awards for the grain and did well in other classes also. -Mr J. Bisdee's exhibit of yellow mangels was a fine one, and this exhibitor gained first in carrots as well. The grass seed section was well represented, and the Belford Milling Co. showed a fine case of their products.
