Pigs

The numbers of entries in this section show an increase over last year's by two; small, it is true/ but even such an increase is encouraging. Mr C. Brice practically swept the board in the Berkshires, his exhibits being good both in respect to their breeding and the condition in which they wnro shown. Mr A. E. Butt, of Glen-iti, was awarded a highly commended for a Berkshire sow, ■ and the only other exhibitor in this breed, Mr B. Butcher, did not get an award. Mr Brice was to the fore again in Yorkshires, being the only exhibitor,, and made a clean sweep of the awards hi this breed '. In the open class Mr H. D. Cox gained a well deserved first,'with his fine bonr "Hasketon Marriner II." Mr P. T. Wallace getting a second and h.c. in the same class. Mr Wallace's second prize pig is surely one.of the most enormous animals ever seen on a show, ground, and an admiring crowd was »usually clustering round : his pen, with exclamations of astonishment at its tremendous size. This' pig is the sire of the first prizetaker. Mr Wallace, it will, fee remembered ,3ms recently purchased the stud of Mr Seth Smith, a strain with plenty of blood and promise. Mr. H. 0. Cox showed a good looking large black Devon sow which gained a first in the open class for sow of any age and breed, barring Yorkshires and Berkshires. Mr Brice's pen of three' porkers', Berkshires, were an even and wellshaped lot, and were awarded a red ticket.
