SOUTH CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB. A committee meeting of the Smith Canterbury Jockey Club was held in the secretary's office last night. Present: Dr C E. Thomas, Messrs A. Scott, H. Lowrv, A. S. Elworthv, E. H. Reid, G. S Crav, J. P. Newman. C. H. Oresson, R. L. Orbell, and J. P. Newman, the latter being weloomed as a new roemher of the committee. Mr C. S. Eraser, the secretary \vp* in attendance. The first business was the election of :i president for the ensuing year, and while this was beinrc done the secretary took the chair. Correspondence inward and outward was read. The secretary submitted a report on the correspondence that had appeared in tho daily papers, and leading articles bearing on those letters. The report was entirely approved and ordered to bo filed in the minute book. It was resolved that £SO be voted to the ground committee for general work. Mr H. Shadbolt was elected a member. The caretaker's position was considered and the ground committee were authorised to deal with the matter. The South Canterbury Hunt was granted the use of the club's appliances at a, fee of £1 Is.

Twelve copies of the Turf Register were ordered to be obtained. Accounts to tho amount of £l7 4s 5d were passed for payment and the meeting closed. -
