THE POULTRY SOCIETY.
THE LAST DAY. Saturday was "lie last day on which the x public could avail themselves of the. opportunity to inspect. the . fine lot of poultry on exhibition at the South Canterbury Poultry Society's show in the Drill "Hall. .-The display was augmented on this occasion by the presence of the competitors in the cat section, which were judged in the morning by Mr R. Warrington, of Timaru. There were '2l entries, and all but two or three of the exhibits were brought in and the many fine animals permed made a good show. A fair number of visitors patronised the exhibition during the afternoon, included in which was a large number of country people in for the <lay, who took the opportunity of viewing the show. In the evening the South Canterbury Pipe Hand played through the town up to the hail, and also during the evening rendered some stirring selections on the pipes. The music, combined with othor attractions, had the effect of drawing ji very large attendance, and right up to closing time at 10 o'clock a .-onstant .stream of people visited the show. It was stated that the attendance was quite on a par with previous years, and though at present exact takings are not known. vet the.Soeieiy may congratulate itself on a show, in some respects, more successful than any that have- taken place in the past. The awards for the-cats shown are as follows:—
Brown tabby, Miss May Harris, Miss Rita Burns.
Grey tabby, .Miss Bertha McAlaster, Mrs C. Cague. Black cat. Victor Coker, J. Lillico, Mrs B. Hibbard.
Largest cat, Miss I>. Me.Vlaster, Mrs Hatha way < Mrs 8. Cague. Angora cat, A. K. Wood, L. Haves, Mrs H. Pago. Persians, Mrs A. Gibbs. no second awarded. ■ Frank Weir.
Any other variety, W. O. Staples Mrs Hathaway. J. J. O'Snllivan.
