FAIRLIE NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Owing to the energy shown by Miss •I- McLean, a class in iirst aid lias bemi organised at Fairlie. The class "ill commence to-morrow at 2 p.m. in St. Columbus' Sunday school. Dr Co<,k will act as instructor. It is to lie hoped that a strong class will be maintained throughout. Tl.p dress-making class conducted hy the Fairliu Technical Association has commenced its second term. The class meets on Wednesday at 12 o'clock. Miss Coe who has classes in Tiniaru, is acting as instructor and this should be Miiticipiifc to induce many to attend. There are at present a lew vacancies in the class. A very demand has set in for telephone connections in and about Fairlie. A good deal of dissatisfaction is being felt among would-be subscribers, at the delay in putting the telephones in. It is now fully two months since quite a number of residents gave in their names to become subscribers to the Fairlie exchange. .Up to the present nothing has been done towards making the connections, and intending subscribprs are wondering •whether the new exchange at Timaru is taking up -so much time that the extra subscribers at Fairlie are not wanted, and are to be left out in the cold. Even after the work is put in hand some considerable time must elapse in making alterations and erecting new lines before all the connections can bo completed. The usual monthly meeting of the Fairlie School Committee was lipid on' Friday pvening last. Present —Messrs Talbot (chairman), Binney, Foden and ffosking. The headmaster reported that the average for thp past four weeks had been 84. Owing to an epidemic of measles the attendance had been rapidly fading off during thp week, there tiping only 4/5 present thft day. He had. on the nriviee of Mr Foden closed the school for the midwinter holidays. The average for the prist quarter was 92. The chairman ftatcd that he had recounts to pass amounting to £ll 4s 3d and after paying these there would be a credit balance of 17s.
