NARROW ESCAPES OF COLLISION

There was a narrow escape of collision at the Heads. The iisland steamer Malaita met a steamer outward; bound bearing down on her. ; The Malaita went astern, and the \oiivex vessel passed her about twenty yards away. A wire from Newcastle states that the Paloona is reported! to have narrowly missed colliding jvith a vessel which was only showingr one light.
