DOMINION DAY.
VOLUNTEER CEREMONIAL PARADE
Captain and Adjutant Foden has been advised that the manoeuvres arranged to be held at Rangitata on the 26th inst. have been cancelled, and -that the various volunteer corp-j -will, instead, parade at their respective headquarters for the celebration.of "Dominion Day." The Mounted Infantry and Infantry Batallions will parade at Timaru, for the presentation of "King's Colours" to each battalion. In the case of corps that were represented in the South African War the Colours will bear an indication of the fact, by having the words "South Africa" and the vcar of the service embroidered on them" and the South Canterbury Mounted Infantry will receive Colours thus distinguished. • An interesting point is raised by a legal correspondent of the Wellington "Petit," who -write?:—"The 26th September is to be proclaimed a public holiday to cetebrata 'Dominion Day.' Tha. cablegram states that the Order-in-Council is to take effect from 26th September. The legal construction is that 'from a certain date is exclusive of that day.' therefore the 27th September is the first day New Zealand will bo at Dominion." Per Tress Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, September 17. A meeting of the executive of the New Plvmouth Employers' Federation resolved that the executive strongly objects to any attempt to make Dominion Day a statutory holiday, being of the opinion that the number of statutory holidays in the colony is already as large as is consistent with the -welfare of the colony.
