SEDDON MEMORIAL.

THE CHILDREN'S WARD. At yesterday's meeting of the Hcspital Board the chairman reported that he and Mr Craigie hud visited the Hospital -with the architect and consulted the doctor, and the result was that a. plan would ba submitted providing for a, ward •of eight bads, at a cost of £650 to £7OO. He thought the plan would be wry suitable, and that Mr Turabull had developed a," very good arrangement. The building would be an acquisition to- the Hospital. There were several children in the pital now; a, children's ward would bi an excellent institution; and ho hoped that thei movement to provide one would be successful. Mr Craigie was to bs the central figure in an entertainment to hi given in. Tiinaru this week, and he hoped that he would have a full and appreciative house. Everyone would admit that a children's ward would ba an excellent institution, and a very suitable thing to connect Mr Seddon's name with, apart from the worthiness of the object. From what he had heard, the chances of obtaining the amount required appeared to be very good. Mr Tarnbull attended and explained his plan, which promises if carried out to make a neat addition to the Hospital, on tha western side. It will be built off the western eide of the female (Barker) -ward, and connected with it by a. covered corridor, and the sanitary offic.s of that ward will serve for the new one. The ward room is large enough for eight cots. , A small ward kitchen is provided, and a small dining room for convalescents cut off the southern end of the western verandah. A verandah, 12ft wide, runs along the northern (front), and western sides. On a pediment in front will be inscribed "Seddon Memorial Ward." Mr TurnbuU'is estimate, was about £650 plus cost of furnishing, and the Government ■will provide 24s for eveiy 20s furnished by donations.

Mr Maslin said it was an institution that, was badly wanted, and he believed that it would be highly appreciated. It would be very much nicer for the children to hi together than mixed with grown-up people. It was resolved on the motion of Messrs Lyall and Maelin : " That- this Board approve of the plan, and that it be submitted -to the 'Seddon Memorial Committee for their approval."
