TENNIS.
RECREATION CLUB V. ST. JOHN'S CLUB. A tennis match between the Timaru Recreation Club and St. John's Club took place yesterday afternoon, on the asphalt court- of St. John's, and with two matches still to be played the results are in favour of the Recreation Club by two games. The weather was all that could be wished for outdoor games, and the court was in excellent order. The play varied a good deal, but some very interesting contests were seen in the first ladies' and first men's games (doubles and singles). Several of the players showed a want of practice, returns and placing being somewhat weak, but on the whole the many spectators present very much enjoyed looking on. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies of St. John's Club, and very much appreciated. The scores were as follows -. — Singles. St. John's Club. Recreation Club. Miss McGuinness 2 Miss Campbell .. 7 Miss O'Leary. 7 Miss McKenzie .. 1 Miss McAteer 7 Miss Montgomery 5 Mr Mangos 7 Mr Shrimpton ... 5 Mr Mulvey 3 Mr T. Wright ... 7 Mr J.
