. MACKENZIE MOUNTED RIFLES. • Several matches have been shot off on Thursdays and Saturdays lately. Last week's match, 7 shots at 800 yaids, class tagets, was for a prize, a pair of razors, presented by Miss Wilson. There were twenty-two competitors, and the best score was 15; Privates Close and Binney tying with this. As Private Close had succeeded in making the mostbull's eyes was placed first. This week the cup presented by Captain Gillies, was shot- for. The present holder, Sergeant Burrows, did not compete. Sixteen fired. . The Port Guards concluded a two range competition on Wednesday last, with a match at 700 yds, the conditions of the match being 10 shots at 600 and 700 yds. About 30 members competed, the shooting at both ranges being only ordinary, the Teason being a tricky wind which, especially at 700 yds, fairly puzzled the competitors. The winner of the first prize given by Messrs Ballantyne and Co. was 'Private Waterus, who shot steadily at both ranges, winning with 5 points to spare. • Private Dunnill wins the second prize given by the company, this is a good performance for a recrjuit, this being his first season as a rifle shot. The third prize, Mr J. Levien's, goes, to Private G. Burford. The range prize given by Mr J. Shewan for 600 yds goes to Sergeant J. Beckingham, and the range prize for 700 yds presented by Mr M.
